Under the headline of “Special Pat on the back to Public Safety Officer Ben Hall“, the small Facebook page of Emmett Township Department of Public Safety posted a small town story that exploded big time all over the social web. When an officer stopped a young mother for driving her girl without a car seat he did something amazing…
The short story tells us how Officer Hall, who was on routine patrol, stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation, when he discovered that there was a small child in the car who was not in a car seat (she did have her seat-belt on). The driver, who was a young mom, told Officer Hall that, while she did understand the importance a car seat to any child, she just couldn’t afford it with her limited income.
And here comes the amazing part that touched so many people, bringing back hope and faith in the goodness of other people. Instead of giving the mother a ticket, the officer asked the mother and daughter to pull into the parking lot of a nearby Walmart, where he went inside and bought a car seat for the little girl.
This heart warming story of an officer who bends the law to do the right thing caught fire all over the web. It received many thousands of likes and shares on numerous stories. The Huffington Post quoted Officer Hall tellin Today.com: “I know that writing a citation wasn’t going to solve the problem. The biggest thing I wanted to do is give the child a reliable and dependable booster seat and giving someone a ticket is not going to fix that“.
